Resources Many resources are available for American Studies students as they work toward completing their degree and beyond. Our resources page is divided generally into information on undergraduate resources, community and professional organizations and employment and career options for American Studies students. American Studies Faculty The American Studies Faculty are available to you throughout your undergraduate career. The American Studies department office will gladly identify the faculty members who can best provide you with advising help, depending on your needs and goals. Research and Library Resources The McHenry Library at UC Santa Cruz maintains wonderful resources for American Studies students. The UCSC American Studies Oral History Interviews, containing transcripts and tapes of oral history interviews are a great way to introduce yourself to the methods of oral history research. The Online Archive of California has information about how to request access to the collection. In addition the Library maintains an excellent collection of American Studies materials, including books, videos, films, journals, newsletters and newspapers in many languages. American Studies Association The American Studies Association is a membership organization designed to bring together persons concerned with American Culture. They include teachers and other professionals whose interests extend beyond their speciality, faculty and students associated with American Studies programs in colleges and secondary schools, museum directors and librarians interested in all segments of American life, public officials and adminsitrators concerned with the broadest aspects of education. They approach American culture from many directions but have in common the desire to view America as a whole rather from the perspective of a single discipline. UCSC Career Center The UCSC Career Advice Network, a career center database, connects students with working professionals. UCSC alumni post information about their career choices, advice about preparation for the career and sometimes provide contact information to students who have more questions. Students can sort information by career interests or by major. This is a great way to find out how other American Studies Majors have used their degrees.
